Om Mani Padme Hum est un des plus célèbres mantras du bouddhisme.

Nommé mantra de la grande compassion, il est considéré comme important dans le bouddhisme tibétain. Ce mantra est associé au bodhisattva* de la compassion Avalokitesvara (Chenrezig en tibétain).

Le sens du mantra comporte de nombreuses dimensions, mais signifie grosso modo « hommage au joyau du lotus ».

*Le terme sanskrit bodhisattva désigne des êtres (sattva), humains ou divins, qui ont atteint l'état d'éveil (bodhi).

Om Mani Padme Hum is one the most well known buddhist mantra.

Called the great compassion mantra, it is considered to be important in the tibetan bouddhism. This mantra is associated with Avalokitesvara, a bodhisattva* who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas.

* A bodhisattva refers to anyone who has generated bodhicitta, a spontaneous wish and compassionate mind to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings
