C’est avec joie que je partage avec vous ce chant traditionnel africain (Chant de travail*) qui m’a été transmis oralement il y a environ 27 ans par Michael Deason-Barrow (enseignant de musique dans une école Steiner) lors d’un stage de chant choral dans le sud de l’Angleterre.

Malgré mes recherches, je n’ai pas réussi à retrouver la signification du texte, ni l’origine exacte du chant !

*Un chant de travail est une chanson chantée le plus souvent a cappella par des hommes ou des femmes de la campagne, des ouvriers ou des marins partageant une tâche fastidieuse.

It’s a joy to share with you this traditional African song (Work song*) which has been transmitted to me orally about 27 years ago by Michael Deason-Barrow (Steiner school music teacher) during a choir singing workshop in southern England.

Despite extensive research, I was unable to reclaim the meaning of the text, nor the exact origin of the song!

*A work song is a piece of music closely connected to a specific form of work, either sung while condcing a task (often in coordinate timing) or a song linked to a task or trade which might be a connected narrative, description, or protest song.
